Instead of being limited to just magic and tech, have the school for adventurers of all trades. Ex: Warrior, Ninja, Priest(ess)...

I liked the idea of magic vs tech because it's a nice way to polarize the two schools of thought. Ninjas and warriors and non magic people would be part of the school of tech ... their technology just happens to be a little ancient, that's all. As in swords and blacksmithing. Priestesses I assume would have magic.
But now that I think that over, it would probably be more interesting to have crazy ninjas with magical swords and stuff. So a free for all would let everyone be more creative. So perhaps those who mix technology and magic don't get along well with people who use only magic or who only use technology.
I just figure it would be nice for the school to have cliques, just like in real life. Makes for more interesting politics.
Yeah, the school idea is sort like Tales, isn't it? Though I was thinking more of a cross between Harry Potter and FMA.

Ummm Genetically accelerated evolution has caused the racial divides which explains the different beings running around. Scientist have tampered with combining DNA and technology to create those that can harness the powers of the elements or inner subconscious?
Why not have the two fighting schools be economically divided?
The well off school who's students always seem to have the best stuff at their disposal yet there's always an inner turmoil to be successful so those that excel in things/hobbies deemed unprofitable are looked down upon and shunned or have to hide their unprofitable talents (philosophers, artists, people who enjoy using there hands like woodworkers).
The disadvantaged one that makes do with what they have but always feels some what repressed by the wealthier part of the economy. This spawns those who can easily come up with ingenious and innovative things to work around their disadvantaged state.
The battle is set up by the faculty who are out to prove that everyone whether wealthy or poor can rise above their station in life and become a strong individual. It's meant to secretly teach the students to respect everyone and see that everyone has their strengths and that there is no shame in admitting you can't do something.
Or they could begin by fighting each other in a regular yearly tournament but teammates begin to mysteriously go missing. The two school have to pool there wits to stay alive as thing get dangerous. They have to learn to work together in order to succeed at retrieving their missing teammates. Who were captured to be subjects in a scientific organizations growing experiment to create the ultimate super species and thus RULE THE WORLD! XP ok now I’m getting overly cliché.

Hey FaronKaos, if you're planning on drawing a number of the students in the first comic, don't include Jaesguamarj, I'm going to introduce him later. You could still put Joy in if you feel so inclined.
