You're not hogging. The more material the first artist has to work with the better. We can start things off vaguely and things generally fall into place. It really depends on the first few artists. For me, I can work with a few details and make things up as I go. Others I know prefer a set of boxes to work in. I'm just trying to get some boxes set up. Wow...I'm speaking metaphorically.
Couple of threads did turn into discussion threads. The suggestion forum was to just get things started when I wasn't even sure we were doing fantasy. Then I got several suggestions...which was enough and had the vote. Once the vote was over I made this thread.
and that's the story of evolution dear children.
>_> A futuristic Daitsu eh? Hmmm...Marron may have to divorce Lucius and persue him. Lucius: AW HELL NAW! I'll take Marron out of the story and you'll have to use someone else. Mod: Awwww...fine. YOu're so touchy. Lucius: >_> Stupid Daitsu and his lame purple hair and his stupid jewely forehead. Mod: I thought you were friends. Lucius: ._. We were when he was four. But then he started making eyes at my girl. Mod: No he didn't. Lucius: YOu're getting off topic. Mod: So I am. RETURN!
Ahem...aneeeway. I just changed the characters I am going to use...again. XD I'll be indecisive till the last minute. Now I've got my modern techy char I guess. Although he's not quite as techy as he is smart. He may do something with Marron. Lucius: >_> I'm going to have to end your life quite soon...and quite painfully. K-M will be jealous how much fun I will have taking you apart putting you back together and... Mod: WOW! That's dark. I think I need to find my holy water and...*splash* BE GONE EVIL ONE! Lucius: *drips* /sarcastic/OMG...I'm melting I'm melting.
So, I'm keeping the Tech school I think. XD YEah...don't want too much HP.
I'm done...really. I'm going to have to get a new black box for my characters. XD

Ya with tech I was just thinking lasers and gaint mechas and stuff but looks like we were thinking of a different tech level. ^_^;
The thing with HP though is that it takes place in the modern day whereas most fanasy stories don't have that feeling since it's on another world.
*Looks at the topic to make sure he's posting in the right place.*
I like the floating island idea for the magic school. May give me a chance to introduce my cloud creatures...
I think I saw it earlier, but too lazy to hunt for it now, but I like the idea with the scandle and I wanted to run with that for a bit. Since I kind of snuck in a bit the "headmaster" (have to think of a new title so it doesn't sound like HP) in Jaes' profile, I was wondering if I could develop his character a bit. How many different magic schools are we going to have? Just the one? Should we have a couple of each?
I think we should get a little bit of school in before the survival island thing as well.

heh ^_^; I think I posed this suggestion already in the suggestion thread.
For the two schools how about a division of the Haves and the have nots. A wealthy school and a poorer school? I think that instantly creates tension between the two schools then. The Haves are the the flying fancy school and the Have nots might be 'grounded' or stuck in a school of regular bricks and chipping paint.
The wealthier may embrace magic but shun things like DNA and technological enhancements...so a student who was born blind but received neuro implants to improve their vision might be shunned. They beleive in the superiority of their own bodies and minds.
The poorer may think of magic as rather cheesy and invest their time in things like genetic masonry (the rebuilding of genetic sequences in DNA) or cybernetics. The technology might compensate for a lack of magic or enhance their magic skills.
Hmmm and as for an Alternate name to Head master theres: Principal, Superior, Commandent, XP Hokage (Kage) , Superior Acolyte, General, Symbol bearer, Elementlord/elementlady/elementmistress, and that's all I can think of at the second.

James: I think having more than one school of magic would be pushing it. We don't have that many artists. That doesn't mean we can't have subdivisions within the school of magic, however. This can be in the form of cliques within the school as a whole, or as "houses" as in HP/the Brit school system. If you want more than one school of magic in the sense of "black magic" vs "white magic" etc I think these different schools of thought can be incorporated as cliques.
By the scandal idea I assume you mean the one where the school of tech joins the school of magic? That would allow for a nice introduction to the new school because the school rules would have to be outlined to the new students. The problem is that we'd need more tech characters.
I think everyone has their own ideas when they hear the words "magic" or "techy". Hopefully some of us will have similar ideas or at least ideas that can be foils for each other, which will create natural cliques for our characters. Here's hoping, anyway. It'd be cool if some of our characters feed off each other, like the mech character who teaches a fellow classmate how to build his own mini mecha or something.
azzy: It's a neat idea, but it rather limits the characters that can be created because it encapsulates characters into two very disparate philosophies of life. That means people in each school have very similar morals and I think that would be challenging to create with so many different artists and writers. Much like the different schools of magic, I think these two schools of thought can be incorporated into different cliques. For example, there are rich kids and poor kids within the tech school, and they can aspire to the ideals that you mentioned.
Modesty: I should totally make a Trunks version of Dai. (Trunks was Vegeta's little kid on DBZ who came back from the future all cool and modernized.) I'll have to think of him as someone from some alternate KM universe. Maybe it's from him and Sylphi that all the chibi Dai come from. After all, Sylphi's part fae. The chibi Dai can be her little fae children. XD
Mock random school rules: 1) No fighting in the halls. 2) No levitation. 3) No summoning of demons from the third circle unless supervised by a certified adult. 4) No laser pointers. 5) Guns are okay. But blanks only please. And no aiming for kneecaps. 6) No praying to foreign gods to strike down your fellow classmates or teachers. Remember, we're all here to learn. 7) SMILE!

Dear gods, I knew I should've kept a better eye on this...
Okay. Since NO ONE ELSE HAS SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT, apparently I will be doing the first few pages. I've already thought out a lot of it.
Two separate schools, on the same island. Magic, and tech. Both are very large schools, set at opposite ends. The tournament grounds are set somewhere in the middle.
Floating island might work, but the techies wouldn't like it. I vote to keep it on the ground. Aerial scenes? Ok, we can work those in. I like the idea that there could be floating islands nearby, though. That'd work. Mass training grounds.
I'll actually be throwing in about six characters, and among them is a demon that will be teaching Black Magic, and how to defend against it. [Yeah, I so had Snape in mind. xD] But there are two MAIN ones out of those, and the rest are supporting. I have both tech and magic characters.
As with any high school, there will be clubs, and your average and not-so-average cliques.
General Magic Groups - Light/holy, Dark, Elemental [fire, air, water, earth] Nature [could apply to earth] Summoning
General Tech Groups - Robotics & Engineering [CUZ THE WORLD NEEDS GUNDAMS!!! xD] Nanotech DNA Manipulation Computers [wide, wide range...sub-groups can be added.] Firearms
Where would Alchemy go? Tech or Magic? It's a combo of both.
Initially it was said that maybe the tech school was low on funds because of how expensive their stuff was, so they made a joint school with the magic school. I still prefer that idea. That's just me though. Lemme know what you guys think. It'd also fix the prob of where Alchemy would go, though, if they were joint.
Personally I like the idea of uniforms. For one, it defines which school each character belongs to. This could be helpful later, especially since some artists have trouble differentiating between character appearances. Also, it'd make less work for all of us to just draw uniforms rather than complex outfits that I know a few of us are capable of creating. Like myself. And bb, it seems.
Back to the schools. If, IF, they're joined, we can split the school down the middle. Literally. One half for magic, the other for tech. That way, it'd be easier for everyone to interact.
As for the demons. Since this is fantasy, can we please not take a religious point of view? Even if it IS automatic.
There are many, many kinds of demons. Lessers, earth-bound, underworld-born...Then you have the devils. In the RPG I'm working on, there are only demons and lesser demons. The demons create the lesser demons from their own essence, and in any form they desire. These are the ones you have to watch out for. Demons and Devils can be summoned, but not lesser demons. Not directly, anyway.
Then there are 'diluted' ones. Ones that have been weakened immensely over time by holy forces interfering and breeding with humans. These are the Relik Demons, which is what my Dark Arts teacher is. They look elvish in appearance, but have fangs. They will transform into monstrous forms when they really, really need it. Which is RARE.
...Please tell me we have the scene set now. Or at least tell me we're real close to it. ><
We can work on the plot later. I'm just concerned with the scene atm, and what to do about uniforms and school divisions.

Would this school be a live in school with dorms and such? It might be interesting because both schools would have to live with and deal with each other. If the techies don't like the flying school they could invent transporters *has a startrek moment* the school could also be located on a mountain with cliffs to either side. Secluded and away from the rest of the world? Alchemy, it could be a co-operative education program between the schools, where a student from either school, is allowed to go over to the other school to take specific classes. Or each school teaches it differently one school teaching it as a divine magic and the other teaching as a scientific phenomenon. I like the idea of uniforms (though personally I hate wearing one: P) you can get a lot about a persons personality by how they dress up their uniform. Shirt with collar and dress pants/skirt uniforms Anime sailor uniforms? Robe like uniforms? Battle armour? Like knights armour with the school insignia on it? Maybe just an identifying bandana, headband, or cape?

I like your ideas for identification, Az, thanks. =) I'm now thinking we can maybe take from FF8 and have everyone wear two types of uniforms. Mission uniforms, and normal class uniforms. Of course, if the char has the day off, they get their normal clothes. Like on weekends and holidays. [But do you get weekends off at boarding schools? I wouldn't know. Or are there half-days?]
As for the rest...Well, I figured they'd be boarding schools. Secret ones, of course, [again, stealing from HP,] that only a few people all over the world know about. And yes, with dorms and everything.
I'd still rather keep both the schools on the ground. We don't need some unforseen future incident crashing the floating island of the magic school. Like in Lunar. XD It really is a neat idea, but it'd make things very complicated. The tech school would need even more money to make and maintain the transporters. They'd be better off with helicopters.
After we get location settled, I'll go ahead and make the maps for both schools, and some of the surrounding area. Perhaps we can stick a facility of the magic school on a floating island? Or maybe some kind of vacation spot that caters to both schools. I really don't want an entire floating school. >< Too much can go wrong.

"Hey Jim! Look down there! See how high we are!"
*Jim looks* "Whoa you're right!" *gets shoved off the floating island*
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...[insert more h's]" *takes breath* Ahhhhhhhhhh!

These schools are sounding less and less like High school and more and more like a University/College. ;D
@bb: You didn't just make an unholy alliance with daitsu and DBZ!! J/K Thanks for rupturing my spleen with the giggles. XD I was having a hoot with the mental images of the "more-mini daitsu!" (Lucius: Following my father's advice I see. o.O) (Mod: We need to get you some clones) (Lucius: You really want more than one of me?) (Mod: O.o Guess not!) But this does mean I'll have to update the chibi-Dai's to have wings. XD
@fk: I've just announce that you will be taking on the first pages. But don't jump to conclusions next time. Normally I would have announced it once everyone gave role call and volunteered. ;D
Plot stuff Technology: I'm going to say it'll be a sort of FF7/Starwars type technology. The kind that just doesn't actually make sense. Like gun blades or light sabres. XD J/K Technology can do almost everything that magic can except with tools, devices, enhancements, etc. Without these things the characters are not necessarily powerless either though. ;D
Magic: Basically bartering with the powers that be or inner wells. Personal energy can be converted to create outputs similar to what the Tech students can do with devices. So seemingly there is no advantage to either. Both can run out of energy so to speak. (Guns get overheated/short out and people get tired).
both schools have energy sources in sort of "materia" type spheres. (elf stones if you take it from My shining knight. XD).
Floating Islands: Sure put some in. Perhaps it can be for some student housing, special classes or training. ;D
Schools Both: On the ground with extensive campuses. Students live on campus since well...they're on an island. Student housing is actually in the form of little villages, not standard one roomed dorms or House towers. Each student has his/her own hut. They can have up to 3 roomates or live by themselves. There are also specialized houses for certain students. IE: Married housing, disability housing, Religious Housing etc.
No Uniforms. Each artist can represent the complexity of the costumes in his/her own way, that's part of the challenge of an impromanga. To determine which school each character is in, they can wear ID badges, which also allows them access to certain parts of the campuses and excluded from others. Besides, I went through the trouble of designing some new outfits for my characters just for this impro. Plus I effen hate uniforms okay. Really sick of drawing them at the moment. (Sorry, I know I'm being bitchy.) Although professors/teachers should "dress up" to show their status. IE: lab coats, robes, a tie. XD
Magic school On the ground. Various "degree programs" include Summoning Elemental Studies Healing Offense/Defense Theories R&D (Ie: blending magic with something else) Beastiology (study of magical beasts) Magic History ArtWork and Weaving (Spell weaving get it! Making magic garments and objects. It's an art apparently) Transportation Vocal Magic (kinda like music class) Shapeshifting Etc (ya'll can add more)
Technology School Engineering & Robotics Energy Studies Nanotech Bio-engineering Physics Computers Weaponry R&D (independent study) Medical Enchanments (healing) Element Research (studying the properties of such) History of ...(various points of stuff) Transportation Chemistry eTc (ya'll can make up more as we go)
two schools, are joint schools. sure. XD We'll go with that.
Demons Demons will be considered a "race" just like elf and fae. But what determines whether or not a character is a demon? I mean...elves have the long rabbit ears, Fae have wings, Terra-angels have wings, Anielfs look like animals, humans have round ears etc. Demons; wings? Fangs? claws? tails? Yellow eyes? Cat eyes? White skin? Red skin? Hair color? six fingers? What will their defining feature be so they can be discriminated against? FK: I'm going to let you decide since you are the one who initially signed up with demon characters. ;D
So that's settled. Let's just make up names for the schools now. These should be enough boxes to work with. I wrote too much.

Thank you Mod for sorting that out. =) As for the demons...the really powerful ones can change their appearance to suit their needs, but not their genders. As for Shiin [my demon] he'll have small fangs and pointed ears. Human size, just pointed. And his eyes will have oval-shaped irises and slit pupils. I've got him drawn.. just need to scan and color-code. For the energy sources...yeah, I like the materia idea. We gonna do the slotted equipment thing too? As for names... have fun. =D www.seventhsanctum.com

So defining demon features are "cat-eyes" (oval iris, slit pupils), fangs, and pointed ears. Demons unable to use glamour/shapeshifting/cosmetic surgury (gotta throw in technology too. XD) will have these features. Okay! Thanks! Shapeshifting can be a "higher" demon power. XD Cool that's settled.
Elf Stones! XD Yes. These can be sort of energy sources. Different colors for different types of energy. Magic users will call them "Rune Stones" "Philosopher's Stones" or "Elf Stones" depending on the magic. Technology will probably refer to them as "Energy Cores", "Plasma", or something.
Yes, I think the slotted resources (since they're on an island) and limited funds for one of the schools would be a good thing. (the magic school probably has leprachauns or something.)
Franklin University of Central Kentucky. ^^ Would that make a great hoodie?
AWESOME generator sites. XD

*twitch* Vocal magic *twitch* must resist urge to create character. I keep getting ideas for faculty members XD. Right now I have an annoying siren wanting to be a counsellor and a 'dorm mother' (aka the local hormone police squad) to the students.
Hmmm some school names I've come up with.
S I T E - school of insight, technology and enlightenment/evolution/education? Academy of Technology and genetic advancement... Delta Collegiate Techie Secondary ...school Aude sapere (Latin:Dare to know)
Ethereal high Celestial Institution for higher learning A posse ad esse school of thought and inner power (latin: From possibility to actuality) ^_^; that might be more of a school logo/saying thing. Sacred circle university/collegiate
I like most of the names that you have Modesty except for the Coven one. ^_^; I associate coven with a form of church, because it's a religious group of wiccans. I'm just imagining the students celebrating sabbaths and the solstices. I think Coven could be used to describe magic clubs. Fire Coven, Coven of Water, Coven of miscreants and pranksters.
